Staff Agriculture Writer

Location: Flexible, Home-based

The Staff Agriculture Writer will contribute to and support the content of the Issues Ink Media properties – both print and digital (website, video and newsletters). This includes but is not limited to story pitches, research, writing and proofing. The ideal candidate will possess web-writing experience, be able to produce multiple articles per week and consistently meet deadlines. The candidate should be able to conduct the research necessary to produce accurate, informative pieces.

This role will report to the editors of our seed- and potato-focused properties.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in agriculture journalism – preference given to writers with seed and crop production knowledge
  • Strategic thinking
  • Proven ability to write feature stories in a journalistic voice
  • Ability to handle pressure and function under tight deadlines
  • Organized, self-motivated and proactive
  • Ability to identify key industry issues and create questions to draw out information
  • Familiarity with Canadian Press and Associated Press style guidelines helpful

Freelance Graphic Designer

Location: Flexible, Home-based

The Freelance Graphic Designer is responsible for working with our in-house design team to execute the vision of assigned projects. The assigned projects should be approached balancing the visual appeal with the functional requirements.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Design and layout print publications and newsletters.
  • Creation of marketing, communications and advertising tools for clients.
  • Corporate communications tools.
  • Manage the creative process and maintain a consistency of design for all materials .
  • Development of marketing components.
  • Ensure all procedures are adhered.
  • Lead two directional communication with internal departments .
  • Develop graphics, illustrations, logos for various applications .
  • Incorporate art direction and feedback .
  • Advise on strategies depending on scope of project .
  REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Proficient working with MAC OSX
  • Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat. Creative Cloud 2015.
  • Working experience of Adobe InCopy
  • Non-editorial experience
  • Understanding of key social media channels
  • Basic understanding of HTML

Digital Sales Representative

Location: Flexible

Digital Media Sales Representative is responsible for promoting and selling Issues Ink’s suite of digital seed media and services:

• SEED WORLD • GERMINATION • AMERICAN SEED • EUROPEAN SEED • ALBERTA SEED GUIDE

A consultative sales approach is critical to success as well as an ability to follow a well-defined sales process as our DMSR will work with the entire sales and marketing team to identify strategic approaches to expand our client base and identify new opportunities.

Keen focus on opportunity identification and presentations while understanding that planning and research are critical to selling success is a must.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Aggressively prospect, develop, and close leads using a variety of sources

• Work directly with businesses to discuss and understand their needs and then develop customized solutions to drive leads to their business

• Own the entire sales process from prospecting to completion of the sale

• Prospect into multiple organizations via cold-calling, networking, e-mail/e-marketing, and utilizing Internet information sources

• Articulate the Company’s value proposition to decision-makers to assess buying interest. Promote advertising and marketing solutions with various management levels and professionals in the agriculture industry

• Provide baseline research within targeted accounts to identify key contacts and critical account information prior to prospecting call

• Develop superior customer service relationship with prospects

• Learn and demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the Issues Ink’s key properties – and clearly articulate benefits and advantages to prospective customers

• Contribute to every component of the critical functions associated with fulfilling the sales cycle (forecasting, reporting, customer database maintenance and data entry, correspondence, and communications)

• Utilize Sales Force CRM to maintain and enhance client relationship

• Proactively continue company product and competitive product and market knowledge via website, on-line webinars, and training information

• Social Media Monitoring: Engaging with social media platforms, creating alerts on keywords, researching topics and sharing information with individuals responsible for marketing and advertising within their company

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Our Digital Media Sales Representative reports to the Vice President, Sales & Marketing and is a key part of the business development team.
